Cooking Class – Mealtime Marinades

Head to the HKS Kitchen for another cooking class with Chef Abbey Cochran featuring a flavor-packed menu where you will learn how to utilize marinades in your cooking to transform bright seasonal ingredients into globally-inspired dishes. The evening begins with chef-made smoky, citrusy Charred Lemon Garlic Marinated Shrimp Skewers with Pesto Butter that will spark your appetite. You’ll then create Basil Chèvre Crostini with Marinated and Roasted Strawberries, a light sweet and savory dish that highlights fresh herbs and creamy goat cheese. For the main course, you’ll learn to prepare Tandoori Marinated Chicken with Mint Cilantro Chutney and Warm Naan, exploring bold spices and classic Indian flavors. To finish, the chef will bake a fragrant Blackberry Orange Ricotta Cake, and you’ll complete the dessert yourself by topping it with Whipped Cream Frosting and Macerated Blackberries for a beautiful, bakery-worthy presentation. This class is all about layering bright flavors, mastering approachable techniques, and enjoying a menu that feels both elegant and fun. Recipes will be provided. Tickets are priced per person.

MEET THE CHEF

Abbey Cochran is a food enthusiast who is a Missouri native with Carolina roots. College took her to North Carolina where she studied Restaurant, Food & Beverage Management. Upon falling in love with Charlotte, she resided in the area for nearly a decade while immersing herself in the hospitality and food & beverage industries. While culinary courses were helpful during college, she really got inspired and passionate when she worked as a spice merchant. Abbey has always had a love for food and how it brings people together, as food is a universal language that everyone understands. She takes that mindset into her current role at Onyx Coffee Lab, where she works as a specialty coffee roaster.
