Then head into the HKS Kitchen with Nena Evans for a baking class that will teach you how to transform your sourdough discard into something truly delicious. As you enter the HKS Kitchen, the Build-Your-Own English Muffin Bar, featuring toppings like Eggs, Crispy Bacon, Sweet Jam, and Butter served with Fresh Fruit will give you a taste of what’s to come. During the class, you’ll learn how to craft soft, golden Scratch-Made Sourdough Discard English Muffins and master the techniques that give them their signature nooks and crannies, too. If you’re a sourdough enthusiast looking to reduce waste while expanding your baking skills with practical, crowd-pleasing recipes, this is the class for you. Come spend the afternoon baking up a batch of goodies with us. Recipes will be provided. Tickets are priced per person.

MEET THE BAKER

Born and raised in Arkansas, Nena Hammer has a love for gardening, cooking, and the outdoors. Currently, Nena and her husband live in Mountainburg, where they have a cat and 13 chickens. They have dreams of owning their own veggie and livestock farm one day, and are slowly building that dream into reality. Nena’s journey with sourdough started 2019 while she was working as the Garden and Nutrition Manager at the NWA Food Bank. One of the garden volunteers, a local pastry chef, shared her starter with Nena, and she’s been baking ever since! She loves knowing what goes into her food and enjoys the process of crafting simple ingredients into something delicious and wholesome. Nena’s starter, Breadly Cooper Hammer, is said to date back to the 1908 World’s Fair. He has been lovingly cared for and passed down for generations. She’s thrilled to share Breadly and her sourdough knowledge with you!
