VoiceJam Festival Schedule
Walton Arts Center is the place for all things a cappella during VoiceJam Festival April 4–6, including opportunities for the community to hone their skills during free workshops and participate in a One-Day Choir.
VoiceJam Festival is about furthering and celebrating the art form of a cappella, and workshops give competitors and community members the opportunity to learn. VoiceJam workshops are Saturday, April 5 from 9 am – 4 pm, and they are free to attend.
Distinguished a cappella performers and vocal coaches will host a variety of workshops. Participants will learn tips, tricks and how-to’s directly from the experts. Workshop topics and instructors include:
· Bass Singing Techniques, Stage Presence and Performance and Let’s Arrange! workshops will be led by members of professional a cappella group, The Edge Effect.
· Spectrum Singing and Crush a Solo workshops will be led by Dr. Erin Hauger, a professor at the University of Colorado, Denver, and the founder of two award-winning a cappella groups, MIX and Lark.
· BodyMusic workshop led by Gabriel Hahn, a professional musician, composer and educator. This workshop incorporates elements of body percussion, dance, beatboxing and vocal improvisation.
· Getting in the Groove and Rehearsal Technique workshops will be led Rob Dietz, a multiple award-winning singer and vocal percussionist who has been arranging, composing, teaching and performing contemporary a cappella music for over 20 years. Dietz is best known for his work as an arranger and group coach for NBC’s The Sing-Off. Dietz will lead workshops on getting in the groove and rehearsal technique.
· Careers in Music workshop led by New-Jersey-born and Nebraska-raised, Tehillah Alphonso, a Nigerian American vocalist, pianist, music director and Grammy®-nominated arranger. The workshop will explore the facets of the professional music world, from music technology and social media, to touring and performing, to management and business.
Due to the success of the first One-Day Choir event in February. organizers have added a second opportunity for singers in the community to come together at Walton Arts Center and sing 10 am – noon on Sunday, April 6 as the final event of VoiceJam.
This choir experience is open to singers of all skill levels who are 12 and older. No cost. No auditions. No pressure. Complete the registration form at https://form.jotform.com/250634967269167. After registering, you will receive an email link to the selected music to learn in advance. On April 6, singers will come to Walton Arts Center’s Walker Atrium and be led by Jason Burrow.
